Choose date field showing future date when running an income statement is confusing

This feedback came from Andrea at site 10053 (AgilLink). 

If books are closed to June 2018 and you are pulling Sept statement, you have to select future date. Even though it's not really a future date.  Why not just have the option to enter date.  She says that it's confusing.
